Swap Meet

The Maui Swap Meet is Maui’s largest open air market held on Saturday mornings from 7 am to 1 pm. Decades ago, people may have bartered or traded items, but nowadays, dollars are the medium of exchange.

Maui residents and tourists alike come here so there is a wide range of goods for sale: hot food, baked goods, produce, vintage Hawaiiana, household items, jewelry, flea market treasures, clothing, souvenirs, collectibles, crafts and art. 

Some booths are in the same place week after week, and other booths change. When people move on Maui and can’t have a yard sale, they often fill up their cars and head to the swap meet.

Earlier in the day is usually better because it can get pretty hot in Kahului and stalls may shut down early, especially if they sell out. On the other hand, for produce, some vendors mark the prices down before 1 pm because they don’t want to pack up the items.

Admission is 50 cents and there is plenty of parking. People come here looking for good deals. Prices tend to be flexible, especially if buying in quantity, though haggling may not be appropriate. Tact is called for when dealing directly with the maker or artist.

Tips: Bring plenty of cash, though some stands may take credit cards. Wear a hat or sunscreen because the sun is strong. 

Where is it located? In Kahului, on the lawn by the back parking lot of University of Hawaii - Maui Campus, off of Wahinepio Ave. It's hard to miss.
